Content and links drive rankings, but a site that search engines cannot crawl or understand will struggle however good the writing is. These foundations cost little to get right at launch.
The foundations
- One clear title and description for every page
- A logical heading structure with a single main heading
- Clean, readable URLs and a sitemap that lists them
- Fast loading on mobile, with images sized and compressed
- Canonical links so duplicate addresses do not compete
- Structured data only where it accurately describes the page
No one can promise a ranking. Technical SEO removes obstacles; results still depend on content, competition and time.
After launch
Submit the sitemap to the search engines' webmaster tools, watch for crawl errors, and review which pages attract searches so you can improve them.
